The Social Club Q&A

First of all, how did you all meet and decide to start making music together?
Funnily enough, we met at the Brickhouse Social Club in Manchester, where we got our name. I don't think there was any decision to sort of make music together other than saying each other had dressed cool and we all played a different instrument. Since then we have been inseparable and best mates.

Your latest release “This Town” (which I love) has been out for a few months now. What was the process of creating that track like?
The process of This Town was far more in-depth than we ever imagined, the song started as just that opening riff that Bradley would play during practices but then when we took it into the studio, that's when the magic happened, messing around with synths and 1960s Rickenbackers. The song just grew and grew into this massive guitar sound wall and we couldn't have been happier with the outcome.
On Spotify you’ve described your music as Inspired by Britpop and rock and roll with sprinkles of psychedelic. Do you have any bands or artists who are a major influence to you as a band or do you all bring together very different influences?
I think the beauty of us four is that because indie is such a broad term we have so many different personal influences. But as a band, we love people like The Charlatans, The verve and Kula Shaker. But Obviously your big names like Oasis and The Stone Roses
Do you have any future plans for more music? What kind of vibe or topics in the lyrics are you wanting to cover?
Our Next single is called 'In A Little Bit' and I think when I was writing this song it was sort of a two fingers up to the people who tell you to get a real job and stop dreaming of playing on the big stages. The song is a lot more psychedelic than this town and Rita but somehow doesn't seem out of place next to them
What is the meaning behind the band's name?
Pub
Do you have any funny or standout memories from any shows you’ve played in the past that you can share?
I think that the lads probably remember different things, but the one that when we played a festival down in Oxfordshire we had been told that after a certain time, all the fairground rides were free. George (Drummer) misheard this and thought it was only for artists after a certain time. So we start queueing for the dodgems to get to the front of the queue and George starts waving his artist pass to the guy at the front. This bloke looks him up and down and says what does that mean. Us 3 and our roadie were in tears watching George telling this bloke that he is an artist.
Do you have any pre-show or post-show rituals?
We have a kebab shop leaderboard as every time before we get on stage, we say we must find a decent kebab, but other than that, we probably have a beer all together before and after we get on stage.
What would be your dream show? Any particular venues, cities, festivals and why?
Heaton Park, because it's heaton park as a Mancunian, it's the biggest thing that we can achieve as a musician.
Lastly, do you have any upcoming music or live plans you’d like to plug?
There are some big announcements not yet released so follow the Instagram @thesocialclubbanduk, But it should be a single a b-sdie and our biggest headline yet.
