“Theres so many of you, I’m nervous” Chloe Slater mumbles in the middle of The Dome At Grand Centrals immense stage. At only 21 years old, Slater has been releasing music for only the past year yet has managed to stir up a storm of attention from the media and rightly so. Performing at some of the UK’s biggest festivals like Glastonbury, The Great Escape and Neighbourhood before supporting Kings Of Leons Cologne show, Slaters quickly making a name for herself.

Overflowing with angst, Slater opens with the Firey ‘Nothing Shines On This Island.’ “He’s got that lifestyle, pass the key” she sings with a snarky tone looking audience members dead in the eyes, spreading the cold feeling of the track. Low and chilling, Slaters vocals intertwine with haunting guitar offering a preview of just how intense her music can be.

Grappling female mistreatment, Slater showcases an unreleased track, preaching about unfair standards and rights for women. In several tracks, she has a talent for using politics and twisting her views into an indie-pop beat to get people’s attention. This upcoming track is no different with a verse where Slater is near shouting, listing problems women still face backed by heavy guitar and hostile beat drops. The audience Is left jaw-dropped thinking about the power behind her words.

Dancing across the stage, ‘Death Trap’ continues the resentful energy while focusing on the state of trying to find housing as a young person. “This one’s about having a really shit landlord” Slater announces, filled with fury before belting the lyrics “Were 21 living in a death trap!” Light and bouncy the music leaves all the attention on Slaters aggravation.

Next is a throwback to Slaters first release, ‘Sinking Feeling’ a heart wrenching track.

Standing on the equipment at the front of the stage, Slater makes the emotional track intimate, getting as close to the audience as possible. “You make me feel like I’m sinking” she repeats, tearing up sharing her vulnerability on stage. Quickly shifting the vibe, A cocktail of startling guitar riffs and compelling drumming creates ‘Price On Fun,’ one of Slaters most popular songs. Fans are excited about this one jumping soon as it begins before holding their drinks in the air when she sings “Fill My Cup.”

Nearing the end of her set, Slaters setlist explodes into a frenzy of dramatic guitar and all-out vocals. ‘Tiny Screens’ sees slater racing across the stage, twisting and turning putting on a show. Standing back to back with her guitarist they have a riff off letting spine-chilling sounds flow from both guitars. The sass continues into the final song ’24 hours.’

“YOU’RE A FUCKING LIAR” She disses a past-relationship with an unbelievable confidence and swagger. Being fairly new to performing, stage presence comes naturally to Slater. That paired with her indie-pop girlboss hits, she’s set to be unstoppable.
